our Story

Welcome to Bagels on Fire! We’re a family-owned Montreal style bagel bakery located in Toronto. Our passion is to bring the authentic taste of wood-fired Montreal bagels to our community.

Founded by husband and wife team, Julio and Hazel Penullar, both whom immigrated to Canada in 2007 with dreams of opening their own business. With Julio’s years of experience as a baker specializing in Montreal Style bagels, and Hazel’s natural business acumen, they knew they could offer unique and special bagels that Toronto would love. With the right set up, they put things into motion to make it happen.

 

On July 14, 2013, Bagels on Fire opened its doors for the very first time at our Queen St. East location. With the unwavering support of our loyal customers, we were able to expand and bring the authentic taste of wood-fired Montreal style bagels to even more people with our second location in the heart of Toronto on Queen St. West.

 

We’re thrilled to announce that we have even more exciting plans for the future, with more location on the horizon.

From the very beginning, we have been committed to using only the highest-quality ingredients and traditional baking methods. Every bagel is hand-rolled and boiled in honey water to give it that distinct texture and flavour. And of course, we bake them fresh every day in our custom-built wood-fired ovens. We offer a wide range of bagel flavours, from classic sesame and poppy seed to more unique options like coconut, salted rosemary, and cinnamon raisin. We also offer a variety of cream cheese spreads, smoked salmon, and other deli-style toppings to create the perfect bagel

sandwich.

 

At Bagels on Fire, we’re not just passionate about bagels – we’re passionate about our community. We love getting to know our customers and hearing their stories, and we believe that sharing a fresh-baked bagel is a great way to bring people together.
